Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to be a MAS member to use these services?
No. MAS Arizona serves all Muslims in the Phoenix Valley, whether or not you're a member. These services are provided as a community resource. However, members may receive priority scheduling and discounted rates for certain services.
Is the nikah ceremony legally binding?
Our officiants can perform both the Islamic nikah and sign your Arizona marriage license, making it legally binding. You'll need to obtain a marriage license from Maricopa County before the ceremony. We can guide you through this process.
What if someone passes away at night or on a weekend?
Our emergency line is available 24/7, including nights, weekends, and holidays. In Islam, we prioritize quick burial, so our volunteers are on call at all times to help with ghusl, janazah prayer, and burial arrangements.
Where can Muslims be buried in the Phoenix area?
There are several cemeteries in the Phoenix area with Islamic burial sections, including sections that allow burial without a casket (as preferred in Islam). We can help connect you with these cemeteries and navigate their requirements.
I'm interested in Islam but haven't taken shahada yet. Can I still reach out?
Absolutely! We welcome anyone who is curious about Islam, whether you're just beginning to explore or have been learning for years. There's no pressure or timeline. Email newmuslim@masarizona.org and we'll connect you with someone who can answer your questions.
